Food
In alphabetical order, these are some of the places we like for food:
- 99 Favor Taste - Our go-to hot pot place. Also has Korean BBQ.
- Bareburger - Several locations. Our go-to burger delivery joint. Try the bison!
- Dos Caminos - Several locations. One of our two favorite mexican restaurants.
- Fuji Hibachi - Recently-opened hibachi restaurant near our apartment.
- Golden Unicorn - One of our go-to dim sum spots.
- Gotham West Market - Upscale food hall near our apartment. My favorite is the buttermilk chicken sandwich at Genuine Roadside.
- Joe's Shanghai - The best soup dumplings in town.
- Mr. Biggs - Our go-to spot in our neighborhood for simple bar food.
- Morimoto - Japanese cuisine. We've never been disappointed with a meal here!
- Ollie's Sichuan - One of our early frequent date spots, now a go-to place for Chinese delivery.
- Ping's Seafood - One of our go-to dim sum spots.
- Rosa Mexicano - Several locations. One of our two favorite mexican restaurants.
- Shake Shack - Several locations. Burger joint that started in an NYC park and is now international. Better than In-and-Out (oh yes he did!). Get the crinkle-cut fries!
- Somtum Der - Far-and-above our favorite Thai restaurant in the city.
- Tasty Hand-Pulled Noodles - No-frills hole-in-the-wall noodle spot in Chinatown.
- The Halal Guys - Street food cart that started at 53rd/6th and is now international. If you're going to get street food, get this, and get the chicken over rice. Make sure you get the right cart and not an imposter (search for their logo).
- The Smith - Several locations. Solid restaurant.
Drinks
In alphabetical order, these are some of the places we like for drinks:
- Brass Monkey - One of our early frequent date spots with lots of room and a nice rooftop area to boot.
- R Lounge - Hidden gem at the Renaissance Hotel in the heart of Times Square with floor-to-ceiling windows. Highly recommended if visiting NYC for the first time as it's a way to see Times Square without all the hassle and commotion happening at street level. Also has some food, but it's nothing to write home about - you go to this place for the views.
Activities
In alphabetical order, these are some of the places we like for activities:
- Central Park - NYC's huge park smack in the middle of the city. Lots to see and do.
- Hudson River Park - Lots of pedestrian-friendly waterfront paths along the Hudson. This is where Ed does all his outdoor running. Just watch out for bikes at some parts where you have to cross the bike lane (many will not yield to pedestrians in crosswalks) or where the path is shared.
- High Line - Elevated railroad track that has been converted into a park. Runs along the west side from 34th street down to a little below 14th street. Best enjoyed early morning or on a cool weekday evening. Avoid daytime weekends unless you don't mind crowds.
- iPic Theaters - Unique movie theater experience with recliner seats and table service for food and drinks. Great for a rainy day!
